Resumen
The present investigation proposes: to make a geologic-geotechnical characterization in
the Mining Area El Corazon, Garcia Moreno, Cotacachi Canton, province of Imbabura;
for the design of a tailing. By means of bibliographic-investigation techniques, of field
through Geophysics (vertical electric catheterization), geotechnical drilling, essays in
situ (SPT, trials of permeability, etc.) and excavation of soil pits, with recovering of
samples for afterwards analyses during the geo-mechanical properties of the soil. As a
result, it was determined four geotechnical units that that go from plastic limes, limy
sands till altered tuffs which are very compact. According to the analysis of taluses with
the program Slide 5.0 for this type of lithology provides a factor of security more than
or equal to 1,5 qualifying it as stable for the static conditions and sloped taluses
1H:1,5V. The cementation of the dams were made in the geotechnical unit four, for the
favorable geo-mechanic that presents the design alternative that proposes account of
two phases: to build pools of tailing obtaining a big capacity of storing with minimal
volume of excavated material; the volume of the material of estimated exaction, would
be equal to 45,648 cubic meters, part of this material will be used for the construction of
nucleus of the dam and protect the shoulders of the same water down, where it will re
vegetate with endemic plants. It was estimated that the capacity of storing of storing of
both dams would be equal to 95,501.71 cubic meters considering that the plant of
benefit would generate approximately 50 cubic meters of litter per day, the time life
estimated of the tailing would be five years.
