Resumen
The objective of the present work is the Design and Construction of a Semicontinuous Reactor to obtain Sodium Acetate as a practical complement of the Reaction Engineering course. This type of reactor will help us to keep the concentration of one of the reagents low by means of a packing valve. The research began with the revision of the linear differential equation for the design of the reactor and laboratory tests to know the reactor variables. The reactor was constructed of food grade stainless steel of 2 mm thickness, a height of 30 cm, a diameter of 20 cm and a volume of 9.4 liters, a paddle type agitation system driven by a 0.24 Hp motor and a heating system for constant temperature. Its operation starts by loading the NaOH followed by turning on the stirring motor and the heating system. When a constant temperature is reached, the ethyl acetate supply is started by means of the packing valve, which regulates the entry of this fluid. In the test performed, it was started with a NaOH volume of 400ml and a consumed volume of Ethyl Acetate of 1340ml giving a final volume of 1740mL of Sodium Acetate and Ethanol with a final concentration of the limiting reagent CANaOH= 0.00332385 M and a conversion of 86%, which represents the transformation of the reagents into products. The reactor has an acceptable performance, recommending its construction on an industrial scale.
