Design of the wastewater treatment plant of the dairy products industry "Pillaro", Tungurahua province. Using a graduated bucket, chronometer and applying the gauging method, the flow discharged during 7 days was determined, water samples were collected for 2 days by composite sampling method, test tubes, thermometers, pH indicator strips, containers and dark amber were needed, these were preserved in coolers with ice and transferred to the laboratory. In the design of the plant, a deductive method for water characterization was used in LAB-CESTTA of ESPOCH. The highest results of the physicochemical, biological and microbiological characterization showed the following values: 12200 mg/L in BOD5, COD 18100 mg/L, suspended solids 5422 mg/L, pH between 3.98-5.39, oils and fats 415.1 mg/L, chlorides 950 mg/L, total solids 8432 mg/L; levels higher than those allowed by TULAS. After evaluating the parameters, the components for a wastewater treatment system were determined, consisting of: grids for solids removal, flocculation tank with removal percentages of 90% of oils and fats, 85% in suspended solids and 70% in BOD5, COD, for rapid settling in a primary sedimentator that will remove 60% of SS and 40% of BOD5 and COD. The application of the activated sludge system in extended aeration presents a removal percentage of 93%, and a chlorination tank will be available for coliform elimination. The final values were: 153.79 mg/L BOD5, 228.06 mg/L COD, 19.92 mg/L suspended solids and 41.51 mg/L oils and fats, complying with the values established by law. We recommend cleaning the screen system, using aluminum coagulant, avoiding dead zones in the aeration tank, and taking care of the color of the water.
