Resumen
The objective of the research is to test the estrogenic effect of guayusa (Ilex guayusa Loes) leaf extract in rats (Rattus novergicus), research developed in the Phytochemistry Laboratory and in the Biotherium of the Faculty of Sciences of the Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo. The experimental methodology used was oral administration and statistically the ANOVA test (p<0.05) multiple comparisons at a confidence interval of 99% using the Tukey HSD test. The 15 female albino rats were divided into 5 groups: control, pattern and experimental subjects D1, D2 and D3. During the treatment, the control group received physiological saline, the standard group MCIAS 3.64 mg/kg body weight and the experimental subjects received three doses of 9 mg/kg, 18 mg/kg and 36 mg/kg of guayusa extract, respectively. At the end of the treatment the serum estradiol levels were as follows: control group 12.72pg/mL; pattern group 14.50 pg/mL, D1 23.70pg/mL, D2 41.70 pg/mL and D3 53. 48pg/mL, on the other hand the ovarian weights were as follows: control group 132mg, standard group 201mg, D1199mg, D2 221mg and D3 253 mg, and finally the uterus weights were as follows: control group 356mg, standard group 511mg, D1 489mg, D2 522mg and D3 630mg. It is concluded that the three treatments with guayusa extract produce estrogenic effect in rats on both estradiol levels and reproductive organ weights. It is recommended that further research be conducted to further investigate the benefits that can infuse the various molecules from guayusa.
