Resumen
In the present work, the reuse of wastewater from alkyd, polyester and urea formaldehyde resins in the manufacture of water-based paints (latex) with aeration and oxidation treatments was studied in order to minimize the levels of contamination such as the presence of organic compounds (glycols, formaldehyde, phthalic anhydride), decrease the levels of COD and BOD, level the pH to be suitable, so that the amount of water that can be reused without altering the quality properties of the paint can be determined. The tests were carried out with the mixture of wastewater resulting from the manufacturing processes of the three types of resins such as alkyd, polyester and urea formaldehyde subjected to different aeration times starting with 24 hours, 48 hours, 72 hours and 96 hours, adding 0.1 percent of hydrogen peroxide to accelerate the oxidation process, in addition to adding caustic soda to stabilize the pH. Then replacing in the paint formulation percentages of 5, 10, 15, 15, 20, 30 of the total that takes the manufacturing process verifying that none of the properties of the paint that are established as quality parameters are altered, such as viscosity that is in the range of 118-125 KU, coverage in letter, cleanliness, whiteness, odor that must be equal to the standard, resistance to scrubbing that according to the standard must be at least 500 cycles and must remain stable. Before manufacturing the paint, an analysis of the water was carried out where it was verified that the formaldehyde present in the water decreased, as well as the isobutanol, in addition to reducing COD and BOD by 90% and stabilizing the pH in a range of 7 to 8. With the completion of this research it was possible to determine that it is possible to reuse 20% of this water in the paint formulation, verifying that there was no alteration of the properties of the paint, ...
