Resumen
This study was based on the design of a filter for the purification of water from the spring of the community of Vizcaya delcantón Baños de Agua Santa, Province of Tungurahua, using pyroclasts as filtering material with a size greater than 2 cm and less than 4 cm, from the Tungurahua volcano currently erupting. The inappropriate conditions of the water were verified by physical-chemical and microbiological analyses carried out at the Technical Analysis Laboratory of the Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo. The filtering material was placed in an 8L drum at a height of 15 cm. Filter outlet flow rates were determined at different valve openings (23 and 45°) for filter tuning. The results obtained showed a reduction in turbidity of 3% for filtered water in test #1 and 4% in test #2, each in relation to unfiltered water. Therefore, it is recommended that this type of filter with pyroclasts be used for wastewater, which has particles.
