Resumen
Four wastewater treatment plants were designed for the Santa Cruz-Riobamba sector, in the neighborhoods of María Auxiliadora, Pedregal, Shuyo and Santa Cruz, in order to reduce the organic load they generate and are discharged untreated into the Chibunga River, by conducting a preliminary study: flow measurement, population size according to the 2001 census conducted by INEC, using the geometric method for a 20-year projection, topographic and geological studies, water table, soil type. The design is in accordance with the technical standards in force: SSA, RAS of Colombia, OPS, calculations and methodology followed for all treatment plants. A physical-chemical and microbiological analysis of the wastewater was performed. With the studies and results, the most appropriate treatment plant to reduce the pollutant load by 12.05 kg/day, which is within the permissible limits stipulated in the Unified Text of Environmental Legislation, which governs this study, employs a preliminary treatment for the removal of coarse solids through bar grids, a secondary treatment corresponding to Imhoff tank consisting of a sedimentation chamber, a sludge biodigestion chamber with dimensions: length 3. 17 m, width 2.70 m and depth 5.75 m, and a drying floor 2 m wide, 3.50 m long and 0.85 m deep, with a plant efficiency of 75%, occupying a total area of 300 m2. It is recommended that when executing the project, all the technical specifications and designs be considered at the time of elaborating the programmed activities to guarantee the correct operation of the system, discarding operation and maintenance defects.
