The university as an ancient institution and being almost millenial assumes various
forms and identities depending on the century and according to the country taken in
to consideration. The new paradigms sustaining the teaching and learning process
are intrincated in a virtual environment and a new modality of education. Distance
Education. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the possibility of Distance
Education implementation in archieves studies under the point of view of
Coordinators of Archivology Graduation Courses implemeted in Brazil. There were
fourteen Institutions of Superior Teaching analized of which eleven are from the
Federal system and three are from the Statal system. Theoretical concepts of
guidance were observed to improve the compreheension of the questions envolved –
the sustain of cientific investigation is based on Superior Teaching, Distance
Education and Archieve Teaching. Distance Education in Brazil as well as the
offering of Archivology Courses (graduation, post-graduation and technical courses)
were rather contextualized from beggining to the present times. The necessary data
to respond to the object of investigation was obtained through out direct and
extensive observation, aplication of research tool, obtaining the return of 86%. These
results show that more than half a group among the reasearched institutions does
not have studies on Distance Education in Archivology. Only 42% of the Courses
Coordinators have previous experience in Distance Teaching and, 33% never had
experienced Distance Education as tutor or student. However, the majority of the
surveyors agreed on the point that the masters as wide and narrow content formers, must produce their own teaching materials looking forward enrich the process of
teaching and learning. Only the Federal Univertsity of Santa Maria is offering
Archieves Study in Distance Education in this country in partnership with the Brazilian
Opened University. Its first edition of Latu Sensu post-graduation course in Archieves
Management was in the year of 2008. The course lasts for eighteen months, with
duration of 360 hours of lecture in total. The institutions has three poles around the
state of Rio Grande do Sul, where the students take presencial evaluations for every
learning component each bimester.
