This monograph focuses on the democratic management in the context of a public
school, It has as objective to identify the characteristics of school management in a
democratic perspective, through the commitment of the school community in the
decisions of an administrative-educational school. Through qualitative research, it is
through a case study, in a public school located in Cachoeira do Sul the search field.
For both uses of documentary research and semi-structured instruments for data
collection. It seeks to analyze as in public school management based on democratic
principles set out by law and by decentralizing education policy by identifying
possibilities, the limits and challenges the school community in this way of managing
the school. The results found in the survey show that the spaces of school
democratization appear as the formal mechanisms and bureaucratic with the task of
fulfilling pre-established determinations. There are great limitations to the process of
democratic management in schools among which continues to reaffirm the authority
figure and centralizing the director of design and large distortion which are among the
subjects that make up the school on the development of collective work. With based
on the precepts of democracy often it seens as the agglomeration of people to
endorse what has already done or to nominate representatives to take decisions on
behalf of the collective. This work reflects on the participatory spaces in school
management as well as understanding the function of school policy and the need for
collective action of its segments in the search for a quality education based on the principles of democracy.
