Resumen
This paper reports a survey made among students in the teachers training course
and early years of elementary school of four state schools in the town of Cachoeira
do Sul (RS). The aim was to investigate the view of the students on the environment,
comparing the two levels of education. Students were asked to represent, through
drawings, their conception of what the environment is. The drawings were analyzed
and divided into categories which represented the images related to the environment
that that were recurring (man, animals, plants etc.). By observing the work can be
verified that, for most of elementary school students, the environment is a
synonymous of green, harmony and balance, there were few representations of
aggression to the environment. In the Teachers training course, the observation of
the studies demonstrates that students seem to possess a greater awareness of the
impacts already suffered by the planet. Considering these results, it would be
interesting to rethink the environmental practice in schools. Respecting sensitivities,
but without hiding facts and perspectives, giving visibility to the problems, perhaps
the children are, increasingly, changing agents and co-responsible for the process of healing the planet.
