Resumen
Unconventional food plants (UFP) offer the opportunity to overcome the challenges generated by the globalization of food systems, which result from highly standardized agricultural and consumer models worldwide. Brazil, for example, is one of the richest countries in biodiversity on the planet. However, the scarcity of studies on this diversity acts as a major bottleneck in determining its importance for Food and Nutrition Security (FNS). The present work aimed to diagnose the approach of the UFP theme by the Brazilian scientific community, in order to draw strategic lines for study. For this, a bibliometric review was carried out, based on searches in the Biblioteca Digital Brasileira de Teses and in the Catálogo de Teses e Dissertações da CAPES, in the last 20 years. The researches resulted in 15 works by biologists and nutritionists, female (73%), public institutions (93%), southern and southeastern regions (60%), most responsible for production. Although in recent years there has been an increase in studies on the subject, Brazilian scientific production is still incipient and with marked regional inequality in the distribution of scientific and technological resources for research. Given its importance for FNS, the systematization of knowledge about UFP should play a prominent role in the Brazilian public research agenda.
