Resumen
A constant conflict arises when designing a structure: how to idealize a real physical system model in order to obtain accurate results without making it highly complex. In this sense, choices need to be made, relatively to the quality of the response. These choices are reflected, for example, on how to idealize the applied loads, that can be considered as either static or dynamic or either deterministic or stochastic. Two Brazilian codes, NBR 6123 – Wind loads on structures and NBR 15421 – Seismic design of structures – Procedure define methods for the analysis of structures subjected to wind and seismic actions. However, NBR 6123:1988 code presents only one equivalent static force method (used for the dynamical procedure). Meanwhile, NBR 15421:2006 code defines two methods that take the dynamical features of the structure into account: the Spectral Method and the time-history procedure. Aside from these, two other equivalent static force procedures are available. Thus, this work focuses upon the study of two different methods based on the same concepts of stochastic dynamics: the Synthetic Wind Method, that allows to consider the – dynamical and stochastic – action of the wind in buildings, and a procedure for the generation, and adjustment to a target spectrum, of artificial accelerograms, that subsidies the application of the time-history analysis procedure. Both techniques were applied to three different structures and the numerical results were compared to those presented on the technical literature or to the response obtained on structural analysis performed using the CAD/TQS, a software for the design of concrete structures.
