Resumen
This work was designed from the literature, health care, which presents some theoretical considerations about iron deficiency anemia and the measures taken by the government to control this disease in the country. The objective was to identify the effectiveness of the National Iron Supplementation, a measure adopted by the government for the prevention of disease. The study was characterized by a literature review, based on papers and magazines surveyed in Virtual Health Library (VHL), articles indexed in the system databases LILACS (Latin American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences) bases and the Scientific Electronic Library online (SCIELO). Your search was based on the keywords, iron deficiency anemia, the National Iron Supplementation, children, nutritional deficiency. Since iron deficiency anemia a public health problem in our country, the government has committed to implement measures aimed at the prevention of disease in the population with the highest incidence. However, while the National Iron Supplementation and fortified foods adopted by the government as a means of combating the disease to be effective, it has not been widely supported by the population, which makes such measures are ineffective to the problem of public health. It is concluded that the government needs a greater commitment by providing better facilities for the implementation of the program, and trained professionals to raise awareness of the seriousness and consequences of iron deficiency anemia and its importance to join the program.
