Resumen
Introcuction: The Respiratory Therapy is an effective therapeutic strategy for treatment of airway secretions. Therapies to remove obstructions from airways directly interfere with the vicious cycle of obstruction, inflammation, infection and lung damage in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF), the life expectancy of CF patients has increased, and they have been leading a more independent lifestyle and thus creating the need for beneficial techniques that do not require assistance from other people and that encourage independence and active participation of patients in their treatment program. Aim: The main purpose of this study is to examine existing literature on the use of the Flutter device as a therapeutic strategy in the management of patients with cystic fibrosis, mainly as a technique of choice for airway clearance, in addition to possible changes in lung function, quality of life, symptoms related to the illness and adherence to treatment. Results: We selected five articles in the literature published over the past 10 years, four randomized trials and a retrospective longitudinal observational study. The results indicate the Flutter as an appropriate action for clearing the airways that is able to increase adherence to treatment but its effect on lung function maintenance is still uncertain. Conclusions: Flutter is a resource used for the patients airway clearance that has proven to be of simple application and that can foster independence and adherence to treatment, which actually favors a more autonomous way of life for such CF patients
