In the last 10 years, aquaculture production increased by a large percentage from 82,622 to 179,351 tons between tilapia, trout, cachama, shrimp and other native species. The aquaculture sector's share in the national gross domestic product (GDP) was 0.3% and in the agricultural GDP 3.3%, generating 53,805 direct jobs and 161,416 indirect jobs. According to the National Aquaculture and Fisheries Authority (Aunap), the average per capita consumption of a person in the country culminated last year at approximately 10 kilos, when the world average is 20 kilos. However, in Colombia there is still much ignorance about the production systems used and their needs; although it is true that aquaculture has had a rapid development between the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century, the reality is that this rapid evelopment has been done in a disorganized, uncoordinated manner and without adequate planning.
Although the sector has shown rapid growth, it has been managed without adequate order, even though progress in many aquaculture production units in the country has shown technological development; it is evident that they are still not advancing at the necessary speed or scale. Consequently, this causes aquaculture producers to have a large number of technical, economic, social and environmental setbacks. In a country with so little aquaculture development and with great potential water sources, it would be possible to improve production by implementing new technologies, with more intensive systems that increase production and load capacity in the ponds compared to traditional systems. Biofloc systems and IPRS systems have great advantages over traditional systems and could be a more profitable and sustainable farming option for fish farmers. By implementing these new production systems, it would be possible to have more recursive farming methods compared to traditional fish farming and thus give more efficiency, modernization and creativity to the field, allowing fish farmers to cultivate fish in different habitats, since there is much more control over the parameters of the ponds. The objective of this study is to carry out a literature review on the current state of fish production in Colombia and the use of new technological tools in the country's production systems; carrying out an extensive bibliographic research in order to facilitate access to knowledge to producers on the use of new production systems such as the biofloc system and IPRS systems Pregrado Médico(a) Veterinario(a) y Zootecnista
