Among the characteristics of interest for sugarcane in Colombia, work is being done on the
possibility of improving the seed production capacity to increase commercial crops and
make effective varietal replacement with varieties resistant or tolerant to pests and
diseases that are currently affecting. Said seed production is limited to cover a total of 60
tons per hectare; However, it is extremely important to increase this number of seed in a
short time, for which the use of gibberellic acid was implemented to evaluate said
production. The objective was to evaluate the response of the crop for sugarcane seed in
variety CC 05-430 to the application of gibberellic acid. The number of internodes per stem,
the stems per linear meter, the stem length (cm), the stem length at the natural breaking
point, the stem diameter (mm), the stem weight (gr) and the number were determined.
cuttings. The statistical method was randomized complete blocks with 6 treatments and 3
repetitions plus an ANOVA analysis of variance with the R statistical program. The results
obtained showed that the variables stem length (cm), stem diameter, weight and number
of internodes presented significant differences between treatments, which demonstrated
the efficiency in the application of gibberellic acid. In conclusion, gibberellins cause a
physiological effect on cane stalks, which allows establishing application rates for the crop
based on this information.
