CONTENIDO

Title: Seroprevalence of infectious markers and sociodemographic characteristics in donors of a blood bank in the city of Valledupar, 2016- 2017
Authors: Mailen Yacel Murgas Liñan

Description: Blood transfusions are a relatively simple and important procedure for multiple clinical events transcending as a therapeutic alternative, however, as any medical procedure may eventually present some difficulty. Regarding the representative aid in the health sector, voluntary blood donation campaigns constitute a large percentage, therefore, in their quality processes have been involved for preventive purposes that have ostensibly increased the safety of the donor and the patient who receives the transfusión, The objective of this investigation was to determine the seroprevalence of infectious markers and the sociodemographic characteristics in donors of the HRPL blood bank, from the city of Valledupar 2016-2017 period to carry out this research we included 5944 donors a descriptive, retrospective, cross-sectional study was carried out, since it describes the data and characteristics of a population through the information registered in databases and donor surveys for the measurement of study variables
.
The results found shows the frequency of markers by gender, where it is evidenced that CORE antigen is the most reactive with 131 positive cases in the male gender, followed by syphilis, and HIV with 30 cases, for the case of the female gender the marker which was presented with greater frequency was that of HCV with 60 positive cases and Chagas with 26.
The results indicate that there is a lack of surveillance and control of STIs on the one hand, and on the other, control of population migration that increases the risk of infections of both STIs and diseases such as Chagas.
