In the frame of research carried out by the Centre of Studies of Literature of Mendoza (CELIM) - Mendoza Literature; Authors and Texts - the members of the Center will develop the following project for the period 2007-2009: PANORAMA OF THE LETTERS AND THE CULTURE IN MENDOZA. The present project intends to enlarge, to deepen, to systematize and to diffuse the knowledge of Mendoza's literature, as much in its specificity as in its relationship with Mendocinean and contemporary Argentinean cultural movement. The frame of reference it based on notion of Argentinean literature conceived by Bernardo Channel Feijóo and Ricardo Rojas, and developed by Gloria Videla of Rivero and Armando Raúl Bazán, among others. The national whole is not conceived as "an abstraction or sum of fragments but as a body in which each organ completes an irreplaceable function. The Nation embrace, it includes and it unifies to the different regions in its geographical and spiritual territory and it reconciles plurality in the unit". But at the same time, the region is conceived like a privileged space for the study, to recognize the openings and relationships that settle down among the parts with the whole (Videla of Rivero. 2004, pp. 9-10), because the regional knowledge, considered in it, cooperates to the invigoration of the national identity. To achieve these objectives and to give an unitary look to the development of the investigation, from its creation, the Centre of Studies of Literature of Mendoza has advanced in the knowledge of local letters, through a series of actions that include the report and cataloguing of materials, the elaboration of bibliographies, the elaboration of studies on different authors, the integral analysis of the work of some author or the research of a certain thematic line. The members of the Centre consider that the moment has arrived of systematizing even more those contributions through the elaboration of a panorama of the letters and Mendoza's culture that it gathers, enlarge and coordinate those partial studies. This new approach intertwines a historic perspective with a focus on the development of the ideas and the cultural movement of each chosen literary period. The members of the Centre continue with the notion of poetics because it has demonstrated to be operative. Although now they intend to consider, in this first stage, the initial years, the XIX century and first decades of the XX century. The notion of Poetics is chosen as a way suitable to reconstruct the conceptions of the literary object that are developed in the provincial cultural field and as an instrument that allows to overcome: to) the limits of a lineal history model; b) the critic's isolation in the analysis of the generic systems (for instance, the poetic of the absurd impacts in a similar temporary period as much in the narrative as in the theatre). The elected perspective, as much as to temporary variable they are also justified for two fundamental reasons: to) because they allow to complete the study of emergent phenomena not yet analyzed in a systematic way; b) because they offer the possibility to trace lines of continuity inside the cultural panorama of Mendoza, already from its beginning. The corpus of studied works inlcudes samples of different genres, even those that suppose a wide concept of "literature": Chronicles that refers to the region of Cuyo, the letters of the first residents and missionaries, the didactic texts of Illuminism in its local version, as well as the work of the most outstanding poets, novelists and playwrights, in a panoramic vision.
