Migrants, SEN, and Low students with the English subject. The case of a public school downtown

Tesis para optar al grado de Licenciada en Educación Public and free education is provided by the State to every single child in Chile. In the last decade the faces of students who attend classes in vulnerable institutions has been widened to migrant families; consequently, on the one hand schools have been challenged to fulfill the educational needs of a new scenario; and on the other, they still have to meet the requirements of Ministerio de Educación’ plans and programs. In the case of English subject, the research context described in this article is about a 9th grade class which is characterized as multicultural, where there are low motivated learners, low level ones, low performing students, SEN students, others who are unofficially diagnosed as having Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and English is a hard subject to most of them. The subsequent Research question is: What teaching strategy(ies) could be implemented in order to have an inclusive English teaching-learning session and accomplish unit objectives in a vocational school? After finding an appropriate literature review and applying three instruments to collect data, a unit lesson plan with special materials, and analyzed results, there is a conclusion oriented to using both students’ mother tongue and technology to have them visually involved to the class and eager to produce outputs of the same visual nature in order to accomplish the objectives of the classes
