Abstract

La diversidad de plantas cubanas es una fuente importante de información químico-farmacológica que aún no se ha explorado o explotado completamente en su máxima extensión y las plantas tóxicas se encuentran entre los miembros más destacados de esa fuente. Con el fin de evaluar la flora tóxica cubana, se revisaron especies en varias localidades con el objetivo final de determinar aquellas especies que se pueden usar como reservas de sustancias naturales que tienen actividad biológica. Como las comunidades locales usan empíricamente todo tipo de plantas, descubrir y darles los diversos usos que tienen, la propiedad intelectual de la selección, el uso y la posología de esos recursos son obviamente suyos. Este documento trata solo de los taxones que tienen efectos nocivos en hombres o animales. Cuban plant diversity is an important source of chemical-pharmacological information not yet fully explored or exploited to its maximal extent and toxic plants are among the most outstanding members of that source. In order to assess the Cuban toxic flora, species in various localities were revised with the ultimate aim of determining those species that can be used as stocks of natural substances that have biological activity. As local communities use all types of plants empirically, discovering and giving them the various uses they have, the intelectual property of the selection, use and posology of those phytoresources is obviously theirs. This paper deals only with taxa that have any kind of harmful effects on men or animals.
