Resumen
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a pathology it has receipt great important in recent years due to the high prevalence and its consequences particularly in relation to quality of life, functional capacity and pulmonary function. The objective of that study was to compare the functional capacity, pulmonary function, respiratory muscle force and quality of life among healthy subjects (CG) and patients with obstructive sleep apnea (GOSA). 38 volunteers were evaluated, 19 patients GOSA and 19 individuals healthy, of both sexes, aged 18 to 65. The following procedures were performed: respond the data from identification and triage, questionnaires related to sleep (Index Pittsburgh Sleep Quality-PSQI-BR and Epworth Sleepiness Scale- ESS), quality of life (The Medical Study 36-item Short-From Health Survey-SF-36). The six-minute walk test (6MWT) was used to assess the functional capacity. The assessment of pulmonary function and respiratory muscle strength was performed through of the spirometry and manovacuometer, respectively. The study had as its main results a decrease in quality of life and functional capacity on GOSA. A significant difference in distance traveled between groups of almost 12% was also observed. With respect to respiratory parameters the study showed no significant differences between groups. After the presentation of these results, it was concluded that patients with OSA have greater impairment of quality of life and functional capacity when compared to healthy subjects.
