The main theme of this study is the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in the initial years of elementary education. The general goal is to analyze the importance of ICTs in the teaching learning process in a class of students in the second year of elementary school. The specific goal for this work are the following: the use of an educational tool for teaching mathematics; analyze how the tool helps in the teaching learning process; analyze the relevance of the use of ICT in the classroom. The adopted methodology is the approach of a qualitative study case, being that the data collection done through the application of a computational game. The theoretical framework is based on authors such as Vigotsky (1998), Ponte (2000), Curriculum Guidelines (2001), Freire (1996), Guimarães (2007), National Curricular Parameters (2001), Almeida (2004), Yin (2001). The data analysis shows that the students' interest in mathematics education increases when using ICTs in classrooms. We demonstrate with this study that the use of such technologies is of fundamental importance in the teaching learning process and we expect that this study shows to teachers the importance of using ICTs in our classrooms.
