Abstract
The Tubara Formation in the Arroyo Piedras Creek (169 m) is divided in three segments, that are interpreted as the result deposition on marginal marine environments related to the Early Pliocene evolution of the Magdalena river paleo-delta: The lower segment is interpreted as the result of siliciclastic sedimentation in an alluvial/deltaic plain; the intermediate as the result of sedimentation on a lagoon and/or coastal swamps, and the upper in the foreshore/bay – upper shoreface transition, characterized by a considerable terrigenous input decrease, maybe, originated by a migration in the Magdalena paleo-delta river system.
