Esta investigación pretende analizar la Guerra del Pacífico como un espacio de construcción y potenciación de símbolos y representaciones sociales. En este
sentido, es importante comprender el rol del soldado chileno en aquel conflicto, y cómo éste se vuelve una simbiosis histórica de todo lo bueno que
representa el ser chileno. Por ello, se debate en torno a la forma de construcción de la identidad nacional en el mundo popular y la importancia de una imagen heroica que se potenció con la Guerra del Pacífico y se plasmó en la Lira popular. 38-60 santiago.javier.sanchez@umontreal.ca semestral This research aims to analyze the Pacific War as a space for building and social empowerment of symbols and representations. In this regard, it is
important to understand the role of Chilean soldier in that conflict, and how it becomes a historical symbiosis of all the good that is being Chilean.
Therefore, it is debate about how construction of national identity in the popular world and the importance of heroic image was enhanced with the Pacific War and resulted in the popular Lira.
