materialismo histórico e dialético, para ampliar o debate acerca das emoções humanas Abstract: We will be discussing the theoretical elaborations of three contemporary scientists a biologist, a neurologist, a psychologist (Humberto Maturana, Antonio Damasio and Fernando Gonzalez Rey) - whose work have been contributing, from different perspectives, to the present debates on the complex issue of human emotions. Authors whose ideas have been impacting the present debates and educational practices, as they criticize and try to overcome certain traditional dualities - organism and culture, individual and society, rationality and emotion - they concentrate their efforts on the search for the understanding of the emergence and status of the individual, conscious and knowing, subject. The three of them talk about
and relate emotion, language, and the individual organism, self or subject. For the purposes of this paper, we will be examining their nuclear concepts and arguments, placing the notions of self/subject and emotion under scrutiny in each of the theoretical frameworks. We will be analyzing their basic assumptions in dialogue with Wallon, Vygotsky and Bahktin¿s ideas and explanatory principles. In our discussion of their assumptions and explanations we argue about the special contribution a Vygotskian and a Bakhtinian formulation can still bring to the debate Mestrado Educação, Conhecimento, Linguagem e Arte Mestre em Educação
