Resumen
The photo-oxidation reactions of untreated and peroxide-vulcanized EPDM rubbers have been compared. The vulcanized samples show a degradation rate higher than that of the untreated rubber, and this is assigned to photo-initiation caused by vulcanization by-products. We also observed that the peroxide concentration used for vulcanization affects the photodegradation of the vulcanizate. An effective stabilizing system combining a benzotriazole and a hindered phenol was used with the vulcanized EPDM and tested for both photo-stabilization and thermal stabilization. 36 2 169 172
