Resumen
Introduction: There are direct and indirect methods that are used by soccer clubs to assess, monitor and determine the VO2maxof soccer players, which is very important for the performance and recovery of athletes during a match. Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the level of the correlation between measures of VO2maxby direct gas analysis and by the field test Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Level 1 (Yo-Yo IR1). Methods: The study included 24 Brazilian male soccer players from under 20 category, of a club in the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil with stature of 1.72 ± 0.08 meter and body mass of 61.17 ± 9.18 kg, with at least five years of practice in the sport. The athletes performed the direct analysis of gases test on a treadmill 48 hours later the Yo-Yo IR1 was performed. Results: The results revealed a significant correlation between tests (r=0.524; p<0.01), but Yo-Yo IR1 underestimated measures of direct analysis of gases in the laboratory (44.98ml/kg/min and 48.14ml/kg/min, respectively). Conclusion: The results showed a moderate correlation between measures of VO2max, that way both tests can be used to analyze the aerobic power of soccer players, since the same protocol is repeated in subsequent evaluations. 20 6 447 450 Bangsbo, J., Iaia, F.M., Krustrup, P., The Yo-Yo intermittent recovery test: A useful tool for evaluation of physical performance in intermittent sports (2008) Sports Med, 38 (1), pp. 37-51. , Epub 2007/12/18 Hoff, J., Wisloff, U., Engen, L.C., Kemi, O.J., Helgerud, J., Soccer specific aerobic endurance training (2002) British Journal of Sports Medicine, 36 (3), pp. 218-221 McMillan, K., Helgerud, J., Macdonald, R., Hoff, J., Physiological adaptations to soccer specific endurance training in professional youth soccer players (2005) British Journal of Sports Medicine, 39 (5), pp. 273-277 Stolen, T., Chamari, K., Castagna, C., Wisloff, U., Physiology of soccer: An update (2005) Sports Med, 35 (6), pp. 501-536 Juel, C., Klarskov, C., Nielsen, J.J., Krustrup, P., Mohr, M., Bangsbo, J., Effect of high-intensity intermittent training on lactate and H+ release from human skeletal muscle (2004) American Journal of Physiology Endocrinology and Metabolism, 286 (2), pp. 245-251 Bangsbo, J., The physiology of soccer--with special reference to intense intermittent exercise (1994) Acta Physiologica Scandinavica Supplementum, 619, pp. 1-155 Silva, J.F., Guglielmo, L., Floriano, L.T., Arins, F.B., Dittrich, N., Aptidão aeróbia e capacidade de sprints repetidos no futebol: Comparação entre as posições (2009) Motriz, 15 (4), pp. 861-870 Ziogas, G.G., Patras, K.N., Stergiou, N., Georgoulis, A.D., Velocity at lactate threshold and running economy must also be considered along with maximal oxygen uptake when testing elite soccer players during preseason (2011) Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research ?, 25 (2), pp. 414-419. , National Strength & Conditioning Association Lourenco, T.F., Martins, L.E., Tessutti, L.S., Brenzikofer, R., Macedo, D.V., Reproducibility of an incremental treadmill VO(2)max test with gas exchange analysis for runners (2011) Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research ?, 25 (7), pp. 1994-1999. , National Strength & Conditioning Association Hill-Haas, S.V., Dawson, B., Impellizzeri, F.M., Coutts, A.J., Physiology of small-sided games training in football: A systematic review (2011) Sports Med, 41 (3), pp. 199-220 Hill-Haas, S.V., Dawson, B.T., Coutts, A.J., Rowsell, G.J., Physiological responses and time-motion characteristics of various small-sided soccer games in youth players (2009) Journal of Sports Sciences, 27 (1), pp. 1-8 Impellizzeri, F.M., Marcora, S.M., Castagna, C., Reilly, T., Sassi, A., Iaia, F.M., Physiological and performance effects of generic versus specific aerobic training in soccer players (2006) International Journal of Sports Medicine, 27 (6), pp. 483-492 Hill-Haas, S.V., Coutts, A.J., Rowsell, G.J., Dawson, B.T., Generic versus small-sided game training in soccer (2009) International Journal of Sports Medicine, 30 (9), pp. 636-642 Pasquarelli, B.N., Souza, V., Stanganelli, L., Os jogos com campo reduzido no Futebol (2010) Rev Bras Futebol, 3, pp. 02-27 Dupont, G., Akakpo, K., Berthoin, S., The effect of in-season, high-intensity interval training in soccer players (2004) Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research ?, 18 (3), pp. 584-589. , National Strength & Conditioning Association, Epub 2004/08/24 Metaxas, T.I., Koutlianos, N.A., Kouidi, E.J., Deligiannis, A.P., Comparative study of field and laboratory tests for the evaluation of aerobic capacity in soccer players (2005) Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research ?, 19 (1), pp. 79-84. , National Strength & Conditioning Association, Epub 2005/02/15 Costa, E.C., Validade da medida do consumo máximo de oxigênio predito pelo teste de cooper de 12 minutos em adultos jovens sedentários (2008) Motricidade, 4 (3), pp. 5-10 Da Silva, J.F., Guglielmo, L., Dittrich, N., Floriano, L.T., Arins, F.B., Relação entre aptidão aeróbia e capacidade de sprints repetidos no futebol: Efeito do protocolo (2011) Rev Bras Cineantropom Desempenho Hum, 13 (2), pp. 111-116 Cetolin, T., Foza, V., Carminatti, L.J., Guglielmo, L., Da Fernades Silva, J., Diferença entre intensidade do exercício prescrita por meio do teste TCAR no solo arenoso e na grama (2010) Rev Bras Cineantropom Desempenho Hum, 12, pp. 29-35 Zagatto, A.M., Miyagi, W.E., Sakugawa, R.L., Papoti, M., Utilização da distância total percorrida no teste específico de hoff como preditor da velocidade de limiar anaeróbio no futebol (2013) Revista Brasileira De Medicina Do Esporte, 19, pp. 267-270 Chamari, K., Hachana, Y., Kaouech, F., Jeddi, R., Moussa-Chamari, I., Wisløff, U., Endurance training and testing with the ball in young elite soccer players (2005) Br J Sports Med, 39 (1), pp. 24-28 Mendez-Villanueva, A., Buchheit, M., Football-specific fitness testing: Adding value or confirming the evidence?
