The theme addresses the mental health of women in the puerperium. The objective of this study was to identify the nursing care provided to women's mental health in the puerperium. This is an integrative literature review, using the following databases: MEDLINE, BVS, LILACS, SCIELO, and BDENF. In prenatal care, the nurse needs to be aware not only of the risk factors, but also the signs and symptoms, where the nurse's action and intervention within the UBS is to detect signs and symptoms of puerperal depression, perform prenatal consultation, produce and elaborate health education, support psychological conditions, and refer to specialized services. The home visit is important because the professional will get to know your family members and the situation you find yourself in. When there is no interest in prenatal care, the active search is a good option, resulting in the search and understanding in the context that she lives. The Edinburgh scale is used to help close the diagnosis of PPD; however, the use of this instrument should not replace the clinical evaluation. Meanwhile, there is not enough training for health professionals. However, a good assistance is made with the training of health professionals, and with the multiprofessional care, to give the referral to the specialized service, studies focusing on mental health care, emphasizing the importance of the topic in the community are lacking.
