With the urbanization of the watersheds a reduction of green areas occurs and, in many cases, making surfaces impermeable, channeling of water bodies, among other interventions that cause changes in the water cycle. On a micro scale, these alterations are already taking place in the lands that receive the buildings of the urban landscape, with rainwater being intercepted mainly by the roofs of the buildings, flowing through ruts, flumes, vertical and horizontal conductors, reaching the rainfall drainage network. The flow through these facilities is mainly via open channels, however, there are cases where it can be processed by pressurized pipes. For their design, tables and abacuses are presented in Brazilian literature of the area or even in NBR 10844, with the flow rate dependent on the Maximum Average rate of Rainfall expected for the locality, linked to a time of recurrence and rain duration. Thus, this work has the objective of presenting equations that help in the design of rectangular channels made of metal material used in hydraulic installations, considering also the hydrological variables present in the process. For this, different scenarios were simulated, considering different surfaces available to runoff, rainfall rate, slope and flume width. It could be observed that the use of the adjusted mathematical models can, in most cases, lead to the under-dimensioning of the height of the gutters, which would not be interesting, due to the risk of extravasation. However, design using linear equations is advisable because of its accuracy and reliability, although these are specific to certain scenarios.
