Resumen
The aim of this paper is to classify sixteen regions of the state of São Paulo in terms of school efficiency. The Data Envelopment Analysis methodology was applied, relating the average performance in mathematics at SARESP with interscholastic variables. The results have indicated that the variables that best explain the performance in mathematics were adequacy of teacher training, number of students per class, teaching effort and socioeconomic level. However, it was possible to observe that the contribution margin of these variables is different among regions, demonstrating that they have different power to convert resources into performance in mathematics. We also identified that the region of Itapeva was the most efficient, and the region of São Paulo, the least efficient.
