DISCOURSE ANALYSIS OF THE SPOKEN AND WRITTEN VERSIONS OF A SHORT NARRATIVE

Resumen
This article begins by looking at the concepts of text, discourse, genre, speech event and the context of situation. Next the oral and the written narratives are presented, and examined from an ethnographic perspective and form the perspective of Labov’s model of narrative analysis. Following this, differences between spoken and written discourse are discoursed. The article concludes with implications for the language classroom.
