Resumen
The ectopic ureter is a congenital alteration, due to failure in the differentiation of the
mesonephric and metanephric ducts during embryogenesis, characterized by one or both
ureters inserted outside their usual topography, which would be the region of the vesical
trigone. The most common clinical sign associated with an ectopic ureter is urinary
incontinence which is usually diagnosed in animals younger than one year of age. Exams
of imaging such as ultrasound and excretory urography are of paramount importance in
the diagnosis of this alteration. This study aims to report a case of the unilateral intramural
ectopic ureter in an eight-month-old male French Bulldog. The same presented urinary
incontinence as a clinical sign, being referred to the imaging sector of the Veterinary
Hospital of the Federal University of Santa Maria (HVU-UFSM), where through tests
such as ultrasound and excretory urography, the diagnosis of the ureter was concluded.
ectopic. In addition, he performed ultrasound follow-ups, after surgical correction, until
the resolution of the alterations in the urinary tract and the improvement of the patient's
clinical signs. Thus, it is concluded that both imaging tests were important for the
diagnosis of the patient, where the ultrasonography at first to rule out other suspicions of
urinary tract alterations and later to monitor the regression of the alterations and the
excretory urography for further clarification of the actual path of the ectopic ureter and
aiding in the decision on the surgical approach.
