Resumen
This research aims to explain the access of disadvantaged families to nursery and daycare classrooms in the Chilean Public Provision Network. To this end, it analyses factors that make access difficult, such as availability, accessibility and affordability, and their relationships with the family, central, local, and institutional levels. Using a proprietary access model, contextualization strategies and process analysis to conceptualize, three mechanisms were identified to generate causal explanations: dynamic availability according to demand, accessibility with heterogeneous priority selection, and affordability with assistance-oriented practices. The relevance of this research lies, on the one hand, in relating factors and levels providing new results in the way of evaluating the access of disadvantaged families, key targets in the Chilean Early Education policy. On the other hand, it methodologically discusses strategies and analyses proper to qualitative research that make it possible to generate causal explanations by identifying mechanisms. This research is reported in the form of "thesis by compendium articles". According to the guidelines of the Doctorate in Education of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, the two articles associated with the thesis are found in a separate section within the compendium. The first, of a methodological nature, reflects on the concept of causality and the generation of causal explanations based on qualitative methodologies. The second presents the general results of this research. The findings of this research are not limited only to these two articles, contributing to future projections.
