Resumen
In this thesis, I argue that the association between system justifying beliefs or ideologies and psychological wellbeing is mediated by perception of personal control. This argument is based on the fulfillment on psychological needs, compensatory control theory, and ideological persuasion processes, which are coherent with the main statements proposed by system justification theory. Furthermore, I argue that this mediation will be stronger among low status individuals and people living in unequal contexts because they could benefit more from perceiving the social systems to which they belong as fair and legitimate. I tested these hypotheses in two studies. In Study 1, using the World Values Survey, I found support only for the mediational model and the moderator role of inequality. In Study 2, using a convenient sample, I show that social status moderates this mediation but not perception of inequality. Los estudios de la tesis se utilizarán para futuras publicaciones en revistas científicas.
