Resumen
San Juan de Lurigancho The objective of this research was to determine the relationship between parenting styles and state-trait anxiety in high school students from a private school in Villa María del Triunfo. The methodology corresponds to a non-experimental design of descriptive type-correlational, cross-sectional and quantitative approach. The sample consisted of 179 students of both sexes, to whom the Steinberg Parenting Styles questionnaire and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory were applied, both instruments were validated in Peru by Merino and Arndt (2004) and Céspedes (2015), respectively.
The results indicate that there is a relationship between parenting styles and levels of state anxiety (p< .05), in the same way with trait anxiety (p< .05).
Significant differences were found according to gender with respect to state-trait anxiety, with the female gender showing the highest levels of anxiety. Likewise, for state-anxiety, 40.8% of students presented both a normal level and a marked level. While, for trait-anxiety, the marked level prevailed with 57.5%. On the other hand, the predominant parenting style was authoritative with 79.3%.
