K ) (π/2 radianes) > ( C
K ) > ( C
K ) (0 radianes) de la capa
borurada. This study evaluates the growth kinetics and fracture toughness of Fe2B boride
layers. The Fe2B phase was created by developing the paste borinding
thermochemical process on an AISI 4140.The boron`s diffusion coefficient on the
boride layer was determined by the mass balance equation, and the boride
incubation time, assuming that the boride layer obey the parabolic law. Also, the
weight gain produced by the boride layer at the surface at the tool or structural
steels. On the other hand, two models were used under the regime of cracking
type Palmqvist for the determination of the value from the tenacity to the fracture of
the iron borided. The method of superficial hardening was carried out for borinding
in paste. The formation of the phase Fe2B was carried out in the temperatures of
1123, 1173, 1223 and 1273 K with times of treatment of 2, 4, 5, 6 and 8 h for each
temperature, using a thickness of carbide paste constant of 4 mm on the surface of
the substratum B4C (approximately 76 Wt % boron) and cryolite as a principal
activator [60]. The mechanical characterization of the layers boruradas was carried
out at three stages: the first one consisted on determining the influence of the
experimental parameters of the time and the treatment temperature in the
hardness of the phase Fe2B. On the other hand evaluates on experimental form
the tenacity to the fracture (Kc) using the theory of mechanics of the fracture for
indentation for the régime of cracks type Palmqvist, selecting the boriding samples
were used with 6 h and 8 h for each one of the treatment temperatures, and
varying the application loads in 1.9, 2.9, 4.9 and 9.8 N, as well as the indentation
distances.
In the third stage the residual efforts were evaluated using the tenacity to the
fracture for microhardness for the régime of cracks Palmqvist taking the
perpendicular and parallel cracks generated on the boride layer; the borinding
samples were used with 6 h and 8 h of treatment for each one of the temperatures,
varying the loads in 1.9, 2.9, 4.9 and 9.8 N, maintaining constant the
microhardness distance in 25 μm from the surface of the sample. Makes the value
settle down of (Kc) ( /2 radians) > (Kc) > (Kc) (0 radians) of the boride layer.
