Abstract

This argumentative text is to analyze which strategies used by the news paper Zero Hora, Pioneiro and Diário de Santa Maria to see the sense of mourning in the news photographs of the crash of TAM Flight 3054, which took place in July 2007. To this end, the dissertation is guided in the recent development of the semiotics of culture - which says that death is foundational to all human cultures - but always guided by the theories of journalism (field to study of this dissertation). The methodology relies on analysis of texts and statements of photojournalism photojournalists who participated in this coverage, which focused on the human dramas facing death. Thus, ritualized the event, institutionalizing the mourning in the three forms of the gauchos RBS through their utterances.
