The mean of the study was to evaluate and correlate the renal function and the protein profile of a homogeneous group of Crab-eating fox (Cerdocyon thous) kept in captivity for at least one year, with domestic dogs (Canis lupus familiaris). The animals were anesthetized and submitted to physical examination, biometric measures, gathering samples (blood and urine) and imaging tests (ultrasound and x-ray). Dogs with a complete blood count, urine test, blood glucose and normal physical examination were included in the study. For the renal outline study, 8 healthy males and captive Crab-eating fox were evaluated. The serum concentrations of SDMA and RI were evaluated. The obtained SDMA values ranged from 6 to 9 µg / dL. The RI was obtained at the interlobar artery with mean values of 0.52±0.10 and 0.50±0.05, for the left and right kidneys, respectively. In the electrophoretic study, 13 males, healthy and captive bush dogs and 7 domestic dogs were evaluated. Serum electrophoresis was performed on 7% NATIVE-PAGE polyacrylamide gel for protein analyses. The serum protein of the two species showed differences in the presentation and quantification of fractions. Domestic dogs had higher amounts of serum albumin, total albumin and albumin / globulin ratio, while Crab-eating fox had higher amounts of total globulins. In conclusion, the SDMA values in healthy Cerdocyon thous were similar to those of domestic dogs, below 14 µg / dL. Renal RI was measurable in the species, at the interlobar artery, being more easily obtained in the left kidney and presenting values according to the literature for dogs. This is the first report describing the SDMA values, RI inside the renal parenchyma and the serum protein fractionated by the vertical 7% NATIVE-PAGE electrophoretic polyacrylamid gel technique in healthy wild dogs, which can be used as a basis of comparison for the species.
