The changes brought about by the advancement of IT together with the growing movement of market liberalization have changed the productive structure, the technical and social relations of production and organizational patterns, inaugurating a new technological and economic dynamic. In today's knowledge-based economic and social conjecture, information technologies, including software, represent one of the icons of the so-called Knowledge Economy, both for its direct participation in the composition of the country's wealth and for its transversality that fuels other industries And sectors of the economy. However, nationally, studies related to the IT sector, especially in terms of innovation management and intellectual property, are recent and preliminary, providing a rich field for research. It can be seen that the discussion about IP within the IT sector has focused on the protection of the codifiable elements, that is, whether it has discussed how software should be protected: copyright or patent. Efforts, therefore, focus on finding the most appropriate form of protection, and little is analyzed about how companies use the different mechanisms of IP registries and other informal forms of protection, especially when there is a decision not to register. Thus, it is clear the need to go further and see how IT companies protect their intangible assets; If they manage and how they manage them; And whether this management provides innovation. The objective of this study was to characterize the intellectual property practices and their relations with the management of innovation in the companies that compose the Beltronense Nucleus of Information Technology of Sudoeste Paranaense. For that, the methodology of multi-case study with a qualitative and quantitative approach was used, being that the companies that make up the Beltronense Nucleus of Information Technology participated in this study. In order to deal with the topic in question, this dissertation was divided into five chapters, and chapter 1 presents contextualization, establishment of objectives, justification and organization of the document and chapters 2, 3 and 4 - The threaded articles. Article 1 presents the construction of the bibliographic portfolio on the management of intellectual property as an innovation strategy, focusing on studies of information technology companies, in order to compose a theoretical reference on the subject, using the Proknow process -W. Article 1 reports this stage of the research and its results with the identification of 42 international and 3 national articles, from which bibliometric analysis and systemic analysis were carried out. In article 2, to measure the effort and maturity of the innovation in these companies in order to obtain information about the different dimensions and variables involved in the innovation, a questionnaire composed of three instruments was applied that evaluate, in a varied and complementary way, the Phenomenon of innovation in companies. This questionnaire was validated with the use of Cronbach's Alpha, for which an index of 0.962 was obtained. The sample was made up of 11 companies of this nucleus, and they participate in the same market segment, with the same size of business, but differ in relation to the number of employees and, especially, in the inherent issues of innovation management. Regarding the maturity of innovation management, the results show that three companies are in the Dissemination stage, one in Innovation as Strategy, three as Structuring and three as Partnerships. As to the dimensions, Funding and Process stand out as loss-making; And as more developed the dimension structure. In the first statistical analysis, it was demonstrated that the Innovation Measure and the Innovation Stage (Scoring) presented a moderate correlation (r = 0.733), which makes it possible to carry out a broader and deeper diagnosis of innovation in the context of technology companies Of information. The following analysis concerns the relationship between the constructs and the innovation measure, whose results showed a moderate correlation (r = 0.712) between the internal and external determinants of the company in terms of innovation; A strong correlation (r = 0.836) with the variable that is composed of the constructs associated to the management of intangible resources. Intellectual property appears as a relevant attribute to the management of innovation, because in the process of developing a product or service and making it available to the market, the company takes risks, provides resources and time; In addition, other factors such as the intensity of scientific and technological development, reduction of the time of technological development and incorporation of results into the production process, shortening the life cycle of products on the market, raising the costs of research, development and innovation raise the importance of Protection provided by intellectual property as a way of guaranteeing rights and stimulating investments in innovation. Lastly, article 3 sought to establish relations between intellectual property practices and innovation strategies in companies of the Beltronense Nucleus of Information Technology, offering them propositions. To do so, based on the portfolio of articles analyzed in article 1, a semi-structured interview script was constructed that allows the interviewee to discuss the particularities of their company in terms of their policies and practices of intellectual property: forms of records, strategy and Business culture, management, financing and relations with innovation. The data analysis was done using the technique of content analysis, together with the technique of thematic analysis, adhering to qualitative research. In general, the companies studied understand the concept, application and importance of intellectual property both in the environment in which they are inserted and in the sector as a whole. Among the analyzed companies, 44% have trademark registration as a way to guarantee some protection to the product and to enable its exploitation in the market and that use a free software tool that assists them in knowledge management. The fact that this tool is used by all the companies of the Nucleus facilitates the sharing of ideas and the establishment of partnerships, which constitutes it as a tool to foster innovation in this environment. With the results of this study, associated with those found in article 2, a framework of intellectual property management was constructed as an innovation strategy for the companies of this unit analysis, as a way of listing some steps for the daily practice of these companies, They overcome the difficulties and limitations they encounter in this area and that impact on their growth and competitiveness. Finally, it is expected that the knowledge constructed and reported throughout the dissertation will serve as encouragement and referential for new discussions and experiences both in scientific research and bringing positive impacts to economic and technological development be it regional, state or national.
