Resumen
The global trend towards increase the use of renewable raw materials, sugarcane bagasse has been shown to be important. This residue is considered a versatile raw material for the fermentation industry, to obtain products via green chemistry. One of the stages of anaerobic fermentation, acidogenesis, is characterized by being a biochemical process in which the bacteria obtain energy transforming hydrolyzed organic matter into simpler compounds. In this context, the objective of this work was to obtain volatile fatty acids (VFAs) via anaerobic fermentation of sugarcane bagasse as substrate and different microbial consortia, in addition to a pure strain such as inocula. The cellulose and hemicellulose present in the substrate had their percentages estimated by gravimetric analysis and the AGVs were quantified by HPLC. Satisfactory results were obtained, a mean of 22.5 g / L of AGVs and 1.8 g of AGVs / g of carbohydrate. The results obtained were even more significant in the absence of pre-treatment for the substrate, which on a large scale would reduce time and cost.
