Resumen
The restriction of movement of people during the COVID-19 pandemic was responsible for improving air quality in several cities around the world. Thus, this study aimed to assess changes in air quality in the municipality of São Paulo - Brazil, during the restriction of movement of people implemented to promote social isolation during the quarantine period of COVID-19. Mobility data during the pandemic period was collected in the Google Mobility Report. Two air quality monitoring stations from Companhia de Tecnologia e Ambiental Saneamento (CETESB) (Marginal Tietê and Congonhas) were used to analyze the concentration of pollutants carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen monoxide (NO), carbon dioxide nitrogen (NO2), particulate material (MP2.5 and MP 10), since the meteorological parameters temperature, relative humidity and precipitation were obtained at the Mirante station of the National Institute of Meteorology (INMET), the analysis was carried out in February to May in the years 2018, 2019 and 2020. A descriptive analysis, using the boxplot and Pearson's correlation, was performed to observe the variation in the concentration of pollutants and meteorological variables. Subsequently, the Shapiro - Wilk distribution test was applied, which indicated that the data do not follow a normal distribution. Then the Mann - Whitney-Wilcoxon test (non-parametric) was applied. The temperature, in 2019, was the highest among the years analyzed, since the lowest precipitation in the month of March, may have influenced the time that pollutants remain in the atmosphere during this period. The Mann-kendall test carried out considering the three years in a row indicated a downward trend in the concentration of pollutants, indicating that the periods of greatest social distance in the month of March and April 2020, directly influenced the concentration of pollution in the city of São Paulo. Thus, the data indicated a downward trend in the concentrations of the air pollutants analyzed due to the implementation of measures to restrict people due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
