Resumen
In search of sustainability, industries have been investing more and more in the technology destined to solid waste management. This behavior drives the need for more efficient and less environmentally aggressive processes, making recycling to be seen as a large area to be explored. The metallurgical sector, which is responsible for generating a large part of the waste nowadays, has explored several reuse techniques, as the steel scale, through reduction processes, becomes a raw material for the production of iron-powder. It is in this context that the present work was developed, a bibliographical review was made regarding the steel scrap, in which the focus was the recycling of this residue by means of the reduction process of the iron oxides, thus allowing the application of the resultant iron-powder as a raw material in additive manufacturing processes. The methodology used was based on the collection of information on the steel scale, directing them to the reuse of the waste through the reduction process. Finally, the purpose of the discussion was to expose the potential and the advantages of steel scale recycling exploration, both economically and environmentally. Thus, the utilization of steel scale, as a raw material for the iron powder production presents technical and market characteristics that makes it applicable in several sectors of the industry.
