Resumen
Car accidents are a serious social and economic problem, since it brings human loss to the families and the associated costs burden the society that supports the public health system that is responsible for the rescue of the victims. Great part of the traffic accidents are caused by drivers that, in drowsiness, sleep while they are driving and, even when they don’t fall asleep, this state of drowsiness interferes in their reasoning and ability to take decisions. However, precise data are not available, since the authority cannot know the right cause of the accident. The acquirement of the data about the drowsy state of the driver can help to reduce this kind of accident. This research explores the use of biometric data to determine the drowsy state through the developing of a system that has two modules: one that collect images and process them using AdaBoost and another to get the plethysmography signal to find the R-R signal, which will be processed by HRVAS v1.0.0 to determine the state of drowsiness.
