Avaliação da vida útil de brocas de aço rápido M2 submetidas ao tratamento de nitretação a plasma

Abstract

The plasma nitriding is becoming increasingly common in the surface treatment processes. One of the applications of this process occur on high speed steel machining tools. This study realized analyses of how the nitriding has influenced tools in the drilling process of the ABNT 1045 steel with the application of twist drills made from M2 high speed steel with a diameter of less than 1.20 mm. In addition, wear evaluations of the tool were made from the number of drillings for verification of lifetime of these drills, beyond metallographic analyses with the aim of checking the influence of the nitrated layer on the material to be treated, including increase verifications of superficial hardness. Therefore, the obtained results showed an increase of up to 63% on the number of drillings for tools that were treated in atmosphere with composition of 6% of nitrogen, treatment time of 30 minutes and temperature of 390ºC, when compared with drills in delivery conditions.
