Resumen
Brazil plays strong features in the agricultural sector with agricultural grain production. The southern region is distinguished by production of corn and wheat, due to favorable weather. These productions are of great economic and nutritional importance, however these cultures are often attacked by fungi in the pre -harvest or storage, in addition to causing deterioration of nutritional loss, can cause contamination by mycotoxins produced by fungi. The control of this fungus is of utmost importance, since the chemical or physical methods generate high costs which may affect the environment and food due to contamination by waste. Thus, it is suggested biocontrol as an economically viable and less aggressive to the environment and consumer choice. The present study aimed selection of yeasts with potential for inhibition of Fusarium verticillioides in maize and wheat. Analyzes of counts and isolation of yeasts and molds and biocontrol test was performed. Counting of samples of maize and wheat mostly remained above what is allowed by law and among the yeasts tested in biocontrol AM 24 C showed a considerable inhibition halo, thus concluding that yeasts have a potential to inhibit the fungus Fusarium verticillioides.
