Resumen
Due to the increase of the by the use of fossil fuels, the demand for ethanol has been growing. The main form of ethanol production is by fermentation by Saccharomyces cerevisiae in a Continuous-Stirred Reactor, CSTR. The temperature is a variable of great importance for this microorganism, and its optimum temperature is 32°C. The open-loop fermentation rector takes time to stabilize, and its stabilization temperature is approximately 39°C. Therefore, it is necessary a control system to keep the reactor in the ideal fermentation temperature. The chosen strategy for the control system was the SDRE, because it is a simple construction and robust control technique. After the closed-loop reactor simulations with temperature disturbances of 20, 30, 40°C and a temperature time function, Tin(t), the fermenter presented a good performance, quickly regulating of temperature and acceptable range of 2 to 5% of the setpoint value.
