The aim of this work was to propose the construction of a Wetland system with recycled materials and for an affordable price. The conFiguration used a horizontal flow and Typha dominguensis as macrophyte. The system was built with a structure of used tires filled with mud. The filter bed was composed of coarse sand with D10 = 0,234 mm; D60 = 0,686 mm e U = 2,93. The system operated with a diary pulse of 220L with the duration of 1 hour and 10 minutes. The sewage used at the treatment was from an university restaurant. The medium dialy load of total suspended solids was 0,028 kg/m2.day, fixed suspended solids of 0,002 Kg/m2.day and volatile suspended solids of 0,026 kg/m2.day. At the startup of the system operation there were acomplished the maximum eficience removal of 93% total suspended solids, 76% of fixed suspended solids, 83% of volatile suspended solids, 97% of phosphate, 79% of TKN, 93% of nitrate and 86% de amoniacal nitrogen revealing the estability of the system operating conditions. The system, beyond being integrated with the landscape aspects of the environment, revealed a low cost of instalation being a viable alternative of wastewater treatment.
