dc.description.abstractThis study aims to discuss the evolution history of distance education based on the analysis of historical aspects and projects in EAD in the country. We sought to demonstrate that the distance education and classroom teaching are two forms of the same function which is to educate and that education can be quality or not, regardless of the form, level or mode in which it develops. From the observation of publications on the history of education in the country by several authors, especially the history of distance learning in Brazil, discourse about some initiatives that enabled the conditions for the functioning of EAD, before and after the Law of Guidelines and Bases No. 9394 / 96, as well as the current status of distance education in Brazil, emphasizing the limits and the possibilities offered by this type of education in our country.
