Resumen
We report a Turner patient aged 22 years with a 45,X/46,X,del(X)(q23) karyotype. Late replication studies showed preferential inactivation of the deleted X chromosome; FISH studies with a probe for total human telomeres showed hybridisation signal in the telomeres on both the normal and the deleted X chromosomes. Microsatellite analysis in the proposita and her family permitted us to conclude to the maternal origin of the deleted X chromosome, and to detect using the marker DXS1106 (Xq22) a probable meiotic recombination event above the breakage point suggesting that the deletion occurred underneath this point. The mild Turner stigmata may be explained by the 45,X cell line, and the gonadal dysgenesis probably by a partial deletion of the gonadal dysgenesis region Xq13-q23 (excluding Xq22). Methods The present and future scenario for Mexican childhood was evaluated using existing population projections. Mortality rates were estimated from avoidable causes during childhood per Mexican state, per state grouped by quartile depending on their marginalisation level and by municipality grouped according to their degree of marginalisation. The Gini coefficient was used for measuring inequality. Results Even though the absolute numbers of children in Mexico will tend to decrease in the future, the number will remain high until 2025. A greatest numbers of children were living in states having the highest degree of social marginalisation. Avoidable mortality was higher in these states compared to states having lower marginalisation. The Gini coefficient was highest concerning mortality rate caused by acute respiratory infection (0.34). Excess of avoidable mortality was evident in municipalities having high and extremely high marginalisation. Conclusions Conditions related to demographic ageing and childhood diseases coexist in Mexico. Inequity in children's health is evident; it is related to high levels of social marginalisation. In-depth structural changes are needed to change this situation which will lead to reducing some Mexican populations' unjust social disadvantages.",,,,,,,,,"http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12104/40521","http://www.scopus.com/inward/record.url?eid=2-s2.0-80355146617&partnerID=40&md5=67293145ac956ef83eb4ad0abe686a49",,,,,,"1",,"Revista de Salud Publica",,"41 53",,"13",,"Scopus",,,,,,"Child; Child mortality; Health inequality; Mexico (source: MeSH; NLM); Social isolation",,,,,,"Demographic characteristics, social inequality and inequity in Mexican childhood health [Contexto demográfico, desigualdad social e inequidad en salud de la niñez en México]",,"Article"

A visual analog scale was used to register pain intensity. Depressive symptoms were measured using the Center of Epidemiological Studies (CES-Dr) scale as modified by Eaton and reviewed for use in the Mexican population. The study included 245 patients, with a mean age of 46 years, 86.1% of whom were female. The prevalence of some degree of depression was 55.1%. Patients with fibromyalgia had the highest prevalence of symptoms of depression (78.38%) and major depression (29.73%). Stepwise multiple regressions indicated that the best model (r 2 = 0.26) to predict the CES-Dr score included the global pain score (P < 0.0001) and education level (P < 0.004). The Cronbach's alpha of the CES-Dr was high (? = 0.888). There was moderate correlation (r = 0.442), P < 0.0001 of the CES-Dr numeric score with the intensity of global pain. " 2008 Springer-Verlag.
