Resumen
Studies on the prevalence of infection with hepatitis B virus (HBV) among children are scarce in Latin American countries, especially in Mexico. This study was aimed to investigate the prevalence of HBV infection, occult hepatitis B infection (OBI) and HBV genotypes among children with clinical hepatitis. In total, 215 children with clinical hepatitis were evaluated for HBV infection. HBV serological markers and HBV DNA were analysed. OBI diagnosis and HBV genotyping was performed. HBV infection was found in 11.2% of children with clinical hepatitis. Among these HBV DNA positive-infected children, OBI was identified in 87.5% (n = 21/24) of the cases and 12.5% (n = 3/24) were positive for both HBV DNA and hepatitis B surface antigen. OBI was more frequent among children who had not been vaccinated against hepatitis B (p < 0.05) than in those who had been vaccinated. HBV genotype H was prevalent in 71% of the children followed by genotype G (8%) and genotype A (4%). In conclusion, OBI is common among Mexican children with clinical hepatitis and is associated with HBV genotype H. The results show the importance of the molecular diagnosis of HBV infection in Mexican paediatric patients with clinical hepatitis and emphasise the necessity of reinforcing hepatitis B vaccination in children. In this work five herbicides: alachlor, oxyfluorfen, pendimethalin, prometryn and trifluralin were evaluated and applied in pre-emergenge in order to know their control on the broadleaf weeds species Amaranthus sp., Chenopodium spp., Portulaca oleracea, Physalis costomati and Euphorbia heterophylla in kabuli chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) under irrigation conditions during the seasons 2003-04 and 2004-05. Treatments were tested in a randomized complete block design with four replications; plot size consisted on four rows 5 meters long and 76 cm between rows. For each herbicide was calculated the percentage of each weed control. For each weed carried out analysis of variance and the Tukey test. Statistical differences among herbicides treatments over the weed species were found, both different percentages of control. The most effective herbicides were Pendimethalin 3.5 L.ha -1 and Trifluralin 3.5 L.ha -1, with percentages of control from 77 to 95. There were not toxicity by herbicides on chickpea crop.",,,,,,,,,"http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12104/41881","http://www.scopus.com/inward/record.url?eid=2-s2.0-84856279587&partnerID=40&md5=98daf1991c5f076a43cafff3f5d43c9f http://ovidsp.ovid.com/ovidweb.cgi?T=JS&CSC=Y&NEWS=N&PAGE=fulltext&D=med3&AN=1384751",,,,,,"4",,"Revista Cientifica UDO Agricola",,"831 836",,"9",,"Scopus MEDLINE WOS",,,,"Index Medicus;Animals;Drug-Induced Liver Injury/et [Etiology];Drug-Induced Liver Injury/pa [Pathology];Injections, Intraperitoneal;Liver/de [Drug Effects];Liver/pa [Pathology];Male;Rats;Rats, Wistar;Ruthenium Red/ad [Administration & Dosage];Ruthenium Red/ae [Adverse Effects]",,"Chickpea; Herbicides; Irrigate; Pre-emergence; Weed",,,,,,"Herbicide evaluation to control weeds in irrigated chickpea (Cicer rietinum L.) at the region Ciénega of Chapala, México [Evaluación de herbicidas para el control de malezas en garbanzo cicer arietinum L.) de riego en la región ciénega de chapala, méxico]",,"Article"

The gene FoTom1 under the control of the S. cerevisiae phosphoglycerate kinase (PGK1) promoter was cloned into pYES2. S. cerevisiae strain Y45 was transformed with this vector and URA3 transformant strains were selected for resistance to ?-tomatine. Two transformants were randomly selected for further study (designated Y45-1 and Y45-2). Control strain Y45 was inhibited at 50 ?M ?-tomatine, in contrast, transformants Y45-1 and Y45-2 did not show inhibition at 200 ?M. Tomatinase activity was detected by HPLC monitoring tomatine disappearance and tomatidine appearance in the supernatants of culture medium. Maximum tomatinase activity was observed in the transformants after 6 h, remaining constant during the following 24 h. No tomatinase activity was detected in the parental strain. Moreover, the transformants were able to grow and produce ethanol in a mix of Agave tequilana Weber var. azul and Agave salmiana must, contrary to the Y45 strain which was unable to grow and ferment under these conditions.
